Operation Al-Aqsa Storm was an awakening for the world: MP
TEHRAN – The Al-Aqsa Storm Operation and its following events have sparked a wave of awakening across the world especially among American students, according to a member of the Iranian Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee.
During an interview with Iranian media, Abbas Golrou emphasized that the October 7 Palestinian attack against Israeli positions in the occupied territories has not only rattled Israel but has also catalysed a new level of awareness among elites, including American students and their professors.
“Student movements in American universities have taken a stand against U.S. policies towards the Palestinian issue which has led to confrontations with U.S. law enforcement. This signifies a significant shift in global support for Palestine,” the lawmaker explained.
The official also noted that the uprising of American students against the Zionist regime's crimes has also brought about a shift in Western politicians’ discourse. “Some members of European parliaments have voiced strong support for Gaza and Palestinian rights in recent days and challenged Israel's actions. This is a direct result of the American students’ activism.”
Golrou predicted that this shift could eventually spread to political spheres of the U.S., forcing American officials to revisit their full and untrammelled support for the Israeli regime.
American students have entered their second week of anti-Zionist protests across the country. Pupils have set up Gaza Solidarity encampments on their campuses, asking their administrators to cut ties with Israeli institution and recognize Palestinians rights to their homeland.
Reports suggest that around 1,000 students have so far been detained. Universities have also begun to take punitive measures in order to force an end to the peaceful demonstrations. Some students have already been expelled or suspended, and others are being threatened that they could be prevented from taking their final exams.
Despite the mounting pressure from authorities, American students say they are steadfast in continuing their support for Palestinians, 34,000 of whom have been killed in Israel’s decimation of Gaza in the past 7 months.
